Preparation of bespoke EHS Legal Registers
If your business is operating in an industry or implements a manufacturing process for which compliance with a wide range of rules and regulations is necessary, it is important that your company has a management system in place to ensure you can manage and meet your EHS regulatory obligations.

Put simply, an EHS Legal Register (LR) is a bespoke inventory of all the environmental, health and safety laws, regulations and notifications etc that apply to an existing or planned operation for the location (country or province) where the operation is or will be undertaken. The EHS legal register becomes a checklist of legal requirements which a company can manage, implement and oversea to ensure their business remains compliant with EHS regulations. A well-maintained and organised legal register will also help an organisation to meet the compliance requirements within current environmental management systems standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. With regard to health and safety, ISO 45001 requires organisations to establish, implement and maintain a procedure for identifying and accessing the legal and other requirements that are applicable to it. Keeping this information up-to-date, an organisation must ensure that these applicable legal requirements are taken into account in establishing, implementing and maintaining its occupational health and safety management system.

If requested by our clients, the register can also ensure that newly published items of legislation are not overlooked and that regulations with implications for more than one subject area (possibly for both environment and health and safety) are flagged up accordingly.
Health, safety and environment management standards including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 do not specifically require organisations to maintain legal registers but doing so is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways of meeting their demands that participating organisations are able to identify, access and keep up-to-date with the legal and other requirements that are applicable to their sector. A register can also be a valuable tool when it comes to preparing for a compliance audit, to organising training courses and to setting out an emergency plan.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Assessment is a critical part of the risk and liability management process associated with assessing, maintaining and improving EHS performance at a particular facility or operation.
