Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Audit

Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Audit

Car Components Manufacturer, Hemaraj, Thailand

SLP Environmental was appointed to provide Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Assessment services for a new commercial vehicle chassis (automotive) manufacturing facility located on the Hemeraj Industrial Estate on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand.

The primary objective of the compliance assessment was to determine which environmental and occupational health and safety regulations would be applicable to the clients planned operations and activities at their new manufacturing facility in Thailand. The client also required an EIA screening study to be undertaken concurrently with the study in order to establish whether Thai legislation required an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) to be conducted for the Project.

As a first stage in the assessment process the facility management was issued a Pre-Audit Questionnaire and Document Request List. This was followed by an inspection of the facility by the SLP Environmental auditing team whilst it was under construction and a review of the manufacturing process flow charts and facility layout plans provided by the client. Detailed interviews were also conducted with representatives of the client’s local management team and consultations were undertaken with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) officers in order to better understand the likely compliance requirements.

Particular attention was paid to factory emissions to environmental media such as air and water, the pollution control technologies that were being installed, the management of hazardous substances and hazardous wastes, OHS Organisation and Management and workplace exposure risks.

SLP Environmental consultants produced a detailed compliance matrix for the client in the form of environment, occupational health and safety (EOHS) regulation checklist along with a schedule of implementation and the associated monitoring and reporting requirements.
