Myanmar: SLP Hosts Environmental & Social Impacts Assessment Seminar, Nay Pyi Taw

SLP Environmental hosted and presented a seminar in Naypyitaw, Myanmar on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) with a focus on ESIA best practice in offshore and onshore oil and gas exploration.

The seminar was held on the 7th April 2014 and delegates included Directors and other Senior Managers from the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), the Ministry of Energy (MOE), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) and the Myanma Petro Chemical Enterprise (MPCE).

SLP Environmental’s presentation was titled “An Introduction to Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Best Practice” and was delivered by SLP’s Managing Director Steve Pearmain. The presentation focused on how to embed best practice into the ESIA process and included an overview of industry best practice guidance documentation such as the Equator Principles and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines.

At the conclusion of the presentation Steve provided some examples of ESIA best practice in action by presenting a synopsis of some of SLP Environmental’s recent ESIA projects in Myanmar that were conducted and reported in accordance with industry best practice guidelines and the IFC Performance Standards.
