SLP Environmental consultants were appointed by a multi-national company to conduct and report a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment for an operational sport equipment manufacturing facility located in Bataan Special Economic Zone, Philippines as part of the overall transaction due diligence process. The client was considering the acquisition of the property and the primary objective of the study was to determine if soil and groundwater contamination was potentially present at the subject property as a consequence of historic and current activities on and or within the environs of the subject property.

The study was conducted and reported in accordance with the practice presented in ASTM E1527-13 and the scope of works comprised of a site and environs reconnaissance, interviews with key informants, consultations with the property owners and neighboring land users. Desk studies were also undertaken to determine the land use history of the area and the physical and natural environmental setting.

The client also requested that certain Non ASTM scope aspects be included in the study and these comprised of a high level Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) legal compliance audit This aspect included a detailed records review to assess whether the facility was in possession of all the relevant EHS related licenses and consents for the operation and a review of wastewater discharge, air emissions and solid waste disposal records and testing data.

These studies culminated in the determination of the environmental sensitivity of the project site area, the development of a preliminary conceptual site model (CSM) for the subject property and a determination as to whether any Recognised Environmental Conditions and/or De Minimis conditions were associated with the subject property.

The reporting included an outline scope of works and cost estimate to conduct a follow-on Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment at the Subject Property.
